I have actually known their family for a very, very long time, and it’s a little funny how our worlds crossed. I went to elementary and high school with Chelsea’s little sister. While in college, I started working at a Mexican food place in Flagstaff and met my coworker Ben. We started hanging out together, and it turns out that Tyler is Ben’s brother! He moved up there as well, we all meet, and realize its such a small world!
When they got engaged, I was ecstatic that they chose me to be their photographer. I had been shooting Ben and Tyler’s family for a while and love them to death. It was just a magical storm of all of us getting together and creating many memories over the years.
Chelsea and Tyler’s engagement shoot was one of the most adventurous I’ve ever had. This was my very first time shooting at Cathedral Rock in Sedona. We all did some research on the trail prior to our shoot, and came well-prepared in hiking gear. Let me tell you…despite having an idea of what we were getting into, it was a really intense hike! It was packed with people so we had to shoot pretty quickly, but we did spend the full sunset up there to make sure we could capture as many beautiful pictures as possible.
Once nighttime fell, we tried to make our way back down the trail but we kept going the wrong way. We couldn’t see much, and none of us had service on our phones. Yikes! Their engagement shoot was actually pushed back until about a month before their wedding. Chelsea ended up falling while we were leaving the trail, and come her wedding day she had bruises up and down her leg. Luckily she had a long gown on!
They held their wedding at The Gardens at Viola’s. Chelsea made the most gorgeous bride and had an exquisite bouquet. With all of the flowers scattering the property, every way you looked appeared to be straight out of an enchanted fairytale!
The couple are big fans of the Lord of the Rings, and sprinkled in nods to the trilogy throughout their wedding. Chelsea made a special homage on Tyler’s ring to it, they had their officiant hold up the Fellowship of the Ring during the ceremony, and even their ring bearer came dressed as one of the characters!
One of my favorite photos from the day was when the wedding party shotgunned beers! It had everyone laughing and you could tell everyone was having an absolute blast.
It was a very intimate gathering, and the newlyweds were surrounded by their closest friends and family. They wrote handwritten letters to each and every one of their guests, which was so touching! A lot of tears, but many more laughs, were had by all.
